Safety and Risk Management Awareness Day

The scientific committee for the candidacy of the Royal Fortresses of Languedoc met on July 16, 2025.

On April 29, 2026, the AMPM organized an awareness and training day on safety and risk management in Carcassonne, intended for the sites of the Forteresses royales du Languedoc serial property. This day was organized in partnership with the Aude Department, the Aude SDIS, and the SMMAR, with contributions from the DDTM and the PNRCF.

Understanding Risks and Knowing How to Act

The morning was dedicated to a theoretical session to better identify the main hazards likely to affect the serial property sites and the measures to implement to address them.
Participants were thus made aware of risks related to drought and fires, floods, strong winds, storms, thunderstorms and lightning, as well as heatwave episodes.
Beyond risk identification, discussions focused on the different stages of crisis management: anticipating and preventing upstream, knowing how to react during the event, and then ensuring the necessary actions after the crisis.

A Practical Session with Simulation Exercises

In the afternoon, participants took part in simulation exercises focused on the risk of forest fires. Two scenarios, adapted to the characteristics of each site, were proposed, with two levels of difficulty and urgency. These simulations allowed participants to reflect on the measures to be taken and to discuss with SDIS professionals the various decisions to consider as the situation evolved.

A Second Practical Field Exercise Day

This first day will be followed by a practical field exercise in autumn 2026, which will continue the initiated approach and strengthen the sites’ preparedness for crisis situations.
