Consolidation, restoration, and development work is currently underway at several sites of the Royal Fortresses of Languedoc. Supervised by heritage architects and carried out by specialized companies, these interventions contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the property.
Puilaurens
The work focuses on the consolidation of the northern part of the east facade of the upper enclosure, following a specific methodology: archaeological study of the building based on surveys provided by AMPM, highlighting three major chronological phases (pre-royal castle, royal reconstruction, late maintenance and repairs), and differentiated treatment of the joints to emphasize these three phases.
The work also concerns the walls of the building adjacent to the south curtain wall, the sections of curtain walls in contact with the east tower, as well as the east tower, which is being consolidated in its entirety.
The renovation of the entrance airlock between the main gate and the courtyard includes the installation of a wooden door made according to the traces of the original door preserved in the mortar.
Finally, improvements are being made to the access path to the viewpoint from the southeast postern, with the installation of guardrails.
